DEEP RIVER AND DISTRICT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
Investing here and now
for the future of our families and our community
What is a Community Foundation?
A Community Foundation is a tax-exempt, non-profit Public Foundation. It operates as a Registered Charity that distributes funds to other charities.
191 Community Foundations across Canada manage more than $5.8 billion in charitable endowment funds from individuals, families and organizations.
Donated funds are invested long-term, and only the earned income is disbursed annually.
The Deep River and District Community Foundation was established in 2002 to ensure a consistent source of funds for providing long-term benefits to the local community.
Our nine-member volunteer board of directors meets regularly to manage the funds.
Grants are given in the broad areas of Social Services, Health, the Environment, Education, Arts and Culture, and Community Events and Facilities.
People who care about our community: individuals, families, current and former residents, and organizations.
Support your favorite causes in lots of ways. Volunteering, serving on boards, donating food and clothing, celebrating at events and purchasing products that support a cause are just a few of the ways you are making a difference in the lives of others. At the center of your philanthropy is charitable giving. By working with us and setting up your own fund or supporting an existing fund, you can organize and maximize your financial support of charitable organizations.
Have you found yourself thinking it’s time to get a little more focused with your giving? Do you want to involve your kids, or grandkids in your giving? Perhaps philanthropy is already an important part of your family’s traditions and values but you want to look for high-impact opportunities. Not only do you want to deepen those intergenerational connections, but you also are committed to leaving a legacy to your children, grandchildren, and community. You can do all of this through planning and tools to continue support of the causes you love. That’s exactly what we will help you do.
As a local business/organization leader, you know the importance of creating opportunities and working with your employees/volunteers to create an impact. That is why many companies/organizations choose to partner with us to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of their charitable giving; we are up to date on current best practices to help your business direct donations and achieve impact.
Who Receives Money?
A wide variety of local projects, activities, organizations and agencies with charitable status. Examples: Deep River & Area Food Bank, North Renfrew Family Services, Deep River and District Hospital, Reilly Bird Nature Reserve Trail, Riverbank Project, Four Seasons Conservancy, local playgrounds, libraries, music programs, youth projects, students through bursaries and scholarships.
How Does it Work?
Very simply. Donations made to the Foundation are invested in a professionally managed portfolio of fixed income and equities. Then, the yearly earnings from these investments are returned to our community in the form of grants to qualifying recipients every year. Almost all the capital from donations remains invested in perpetuity to keep generating earnings.
To enhance the quality of life for people who live in Deep River, Laurentian Hills, Head, Clara, and Maria, and Rapides des Joachims.
We manage all financial, reporting and due diligence aspects with the charity on your behalf. You have the benefit of seeing your donation at work and achieving corporate recognition for your company’s philanthropy.
By establishing a corporate fund, you can work with us to organize, streamline requests and celebrate your company’s financial support of organizations that inspire you.
