Support Your Community: Introducing the Murphy Fund (Fund#132)

Dianne (nee Unwin) and James (Jim) Murphy are dedicated educators with careers spanning from the 1970s to the 1990s who have significantly impacted Deep River and Area communities: Dianne, as a beloved grade school teacher at Cockroft and Morrison Schools, shaped many young minds, and Jim, at Mackenzie High School, inspired generations of high school students in the subject of Geography.

Settling in Mackey, Ontario, in the 1970s, Dianne and Jim cherished the tranquillity, beauty and history of the Upper Ottawa Valley. Their passion for travel took them around the globe, immersing themselves in diverse cultures, and taking what they learned with them back home.

The Murphys demonstrate their ongoing commitment to the community: Dianne actively supports local organizations, such as the HCM library, Missing Link and the School House Museum. Jim shares his passion for macro photography, capturing the beauty of nature both locally and abroad. Together, the Murphys exemplify the true spirit of community involvement.

In keeping with their vision, in 2023, Dianne and Jim decided to establish the Murphy Fund with the Deep River and District Community Foundation to ensure that future generations continue to benefit from their passions.

The Murphy Fund (132) aims to positively impact the United Townships of Head, Clara and Maria residents in two meaningful ways. First, it will offer an annual post-secondary scholarship of $1,000 (subject to earnings) for students from Head, Clara and Maria, with recommendations made by the United Townships of Head, Clara and Maria. Additionally, the fund will provide earnings for grants in support of public benefit activities and projects that enhance the community and enrich the lives of residents.

This Fund reflects the Murphys' commitment to fostering post-secondary education and enhancing the lives of those in their beloved townships.

The Murphy Fund will create even more opportunities for local students and the community as it grows. You, too, can be a part of this community legacy by making a charitable donation to the Murphy Fund (132) at https://www.drdcf.ca/donate or by contacting us at info@drdcf.ca. Together, let's continue to foster education and enrich the lives of those in the beloved township.
